 Elvis Presley 1st LP
RCA Victor (LPM 1274) |
This is history, the album that kick-started the whole rock'n'roll / youth culture scene (forget Bill Haley and Johnnie Ray!)
Extremely rare 1956 American pressing of the near-legendary first Presley album for RCA, at his majestic, hip-swivelling, early best.
Inspiring a generation of teenage rebels, and putting the young Elvis firmly on the map, the cover was also the source for the Clash's classic ‘London Calling’ album.
Some wear to cover (it's almost 50 years old!), but nothing major.
Vinyl has surface marks, a one-word crack (on ‘Tutti Frutti’), but otherwise is in very good condition, with the classic RCA Victor labels.
This ain't history, it's rock'n'roll.

For those interested in the stateside development of what was later to become Punk Rock, look no further.
This local (to Berkley, California) compilation features largely uninteresting tracks by Earth Quake, Gary Kihn, the Rubinoos, BUT also includes the first recording of Jonathan Richman's seminal, and monolithic, ‘Roadrunner’. For further reading on the importance of this track, check Greil Marcus' equally seminal book, ‘Lipstick Traces’.
